The Boys & Girls Club Christmas Party

The holidays traditionally pose an extra challenge for families in need, especially for the children. Physiologically, think how devastating it would be too receive nothing while all their friends received a new toy. A Christmas in poverty does have an impact on these children in need. Remember, children are one of our nation’s most valuable resources. Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders. But as important that it is to receive a gift, it is more important to make sure the children understand that this is not an entitlement but something that is earned.
Each needy child has a choice of two paths to the future. The Kiwanis programs are structured to reinforce the positive, motivating these children to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. We use the fun of the Christmas party to teach the rewards of giving.
Every December we gather with children from Volunteers of America and The Boys & Girls Club at the Boys and Girls Club in Harbor City. The children are 5-7 years old and we provide a Santa, food, toys a D.J. playing Christmas music, and an activity in which they give back by making a gift for their family. The families who are chosen are the most in need of financial assistance and we want to make sure the children have gifts over the holidays.
